1. How to correctly remove the protective film from the frames
Before removing the plastic strip placed on the window frame, use the hair dryer to heat the area around the double-sided foil. This way, it will soften and make it easier to remove.
When you feel the adhesive getting softer, grab the plastic end and pull gently. The glue on the frames should come off with this movement. If parts of the tape and glue from the label stubbornly stick to the window, use the hair dryer again to heat and then peel them off. Afterwards, you can use specialised cleaning solutions, soap and warm water or even a mixture of acetone and water to remove the film residue. All you have to do now is to gently scrub the remaining tape with your fingernail or a soft brush.
2. How to clean paint residues of windows and glass
As sturdy as window frames are, so are the traces of plaster or paint that remain on them after they have been installed or even after a renovation.
To remove the paint from the PVC window frames, apply a solvent frame cleaner and wait for it to soften. After about 10 minutes, use a non-abrasive cloth to scrub the surface. You can use a steam cleaner if none of the window cleaning solutions helped.
Removing plaster from windows can be annoying and difficult, especially because you have to be careful to not damage or leave scratches on the frames. That’s why, in most cases, it’s best to call in a cleaning service specialist. However, if you want to take on this task, here’s what you need to do:
Spray the area in question with a commercial lime/cement remover and wait until it changes structure and becomes watery. Then, use a soft sponge or pressurized water to clean and get rid of all the residue.
3. Steps to follow to make uPVC frames shine
You can apply either a commercially available cleaning solution or a home-made mixture to your window frames, which will save you extra costs (see examples below).
To get rid of dirt from window frames you need: a toothbrush, a soft washcloth, white vinegar, baking powder, paper towel. The steps are as follows:
Sprinkle baking soda on the dirtiest parts, which are usually in the corners and add a little bit of vinegar over it. Let it work for 5-10 minutes, then use the brush to reach the most inaccessible places. When you’re done, use paper towels to remove the mixture and dirt. Wet the washcloth and clean up any remaining messy parts.
